Blogging- A Retrospective

The past fifteen weeks of Writ-150 have taught me that I write in an analytical style. I tend to do better on essay prompts that involve analyzing why something would be a certain problem and how to fix it. Therefore, I found the first writing essay about positive stereotypes to be the easiest. My learning style is also analytical, which is why I am interested in jobs and subjects involving the analysis of cause and effect. My blogging advice for future students is to also include in your entries what you are struggling with so that you can receive help from other students on that weakness. I wish I would have done that so I could learn to incorporate outside sources better. I might use my writing style to write lab reports and journals, as my major requires that due to its experiment heavy curriculum. Practicing how to incorporate and cite will help when incorporating evidence from previous studies or scientific journals.

The collection of Indian Affairs and Laws and Treaties at Oklahoma State University is an excellent collection of primary sources. Oklahoma State University is a reliable source because many Native Americans were displaced and had to settle in what is Present Day Oklahoma. I would recommend it to my classmates.                 The main topic I am choosing is the Trail of Tears and other ways Native Americans were mistreated and abused by the United States for political and social gain. This is a good candidate for evaluation because the Native American treatment in schools is censored in our public education systems. An example of this censorship includes teaching thanksgiving as a peaceful interaction between pilgrims and Natives, when it was a violent one.  In secondary education such as middle and high schools, Native American history as a crucial part of American origins is glossed over for more glorifying events such as the Civil war or Revolutionary War. This makes our youth grow up with the sustained picture that America had a glorious and perfect origin.

I found my sources using Proquest. I used keywords involving the words 'Native American' and 'Healthcare'. The sources that provide the underlying causes of healthcare inequity along with solutions to these inequities will be the most useful for my final paper. These sources address different age and gender groups in order to find solutions that cater to each group. https://www.proquest.com/docview/992882856/fulltextPDF/1B3D2FC086CC48D5PQ/21?accountid=14749 https://www.proquest.com/docview/1984993039/fulltextPDF/1B3D2FC086CC48D5PQ/29?accountid=14749

I am choosing to write about Native Americans. I already know that Native Americans face inaccessible healthcare benefits due to poverty and their rural environment. I plan to research more about causes towards their healthcare inequity and more on actions being taken to alleviate this inequity.

The article " The Role of Highways in America's Poverty", examines the displacement of African Americans in Pittsburg. This displacement was caused by the construction of highways. At that time, roads were highly congested, and city planners saw African American communities as an obstacle, so they removed them. Some possible ways to make amends are to name the highway after the African American community, allow for more accessibility within the highways for previously displaced African American families, and allow for cheaper rent for the displaced.
